Hello, everyone! This is the. In this we’re going to talk about two smartphones – they are the Xiaomi Redmi 9A and the Xiaomi Redmi 9. I will tell you about their technical characteristics of these devices and their differences. As always, I will leave links to specialized services in the description under this video. By following them, you can compare the cost of these smartphones.
Well, now, let’s find out how the Xiaomi Redmi 9A and Redmi 9 differ.
Despite belonging to the same line, the manufacturer tried to make these smartphones look different from each other. Although, they are very similar to each other in front side, like most modern smartphones.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9A is definitely not small. This is a large and heavy smartphone, which will not be very convenient to use with one hand. But it will be convenient to watch videos on its large screen, read text and play games. The keyhole and side bezels are kept to a minimum. The lower frame is wider, but it doesn’t catch the eye and doesn’t spoil the overall picture. The bottom of this smartphone has a speaker, microphone and microUSB connector. Considering the low cost of the smartphone, the use of such a connector is justified. The Redmi 9A’s volume and screen lock keys are located on the right. On the left side there is a triple slot for a memory card and two SIM cards. Of course, it is quite pleasing, since you do not have to sacrifice one SIM card for data storage. There is also a headphone jack in this smartphone, which the developers have placed on the upper side. Unfortunately, there is no fingerprint scanner but the Redmi 9A has a face unlock function.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 practically does not differ in size or weight from its fellow in the line. This is also a rather large and weighty smartphone with a huge screen. The side and top bezels of the Redmi 9’s screen are narrow, while the bottom is slightly wider. In general, everything is the same as in Redmi 9A, with the only exception. The screen of the Redmi 9 is covered with Gorilla Glass 3. As for the arrangement of the elements on the body, like the rival, the buttons of this smartphone are on the right side, and the triple slot for memory cards and sim cards are on the left. The headphone jack has moved down from the top end, where there are also speakers, a microphone and a USB Type-C connector.
The smartphones have much more differences on their back panels. Te Xiaomi Redmi 9A is made of matte plastic and available in three colors: blue, green, and black. The decorative element is the vertical glossy strip under the camera, and the flash unit located in the upper left corner.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 also has a matte plastic back cover, but it can be green, gray, or blue-purple. The plastic is pleasant to touch, there are no fingerprints on it and the smartphone with such coating does not slip in your hands. The vertical block of cameras in the Redmi 9 is located in the center of the back cover. They are enclosed in a circle that differs in texture. Here, under the camera unit, there is a fingerprint scanner which works quickly and flawlessly.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9A received a large IPS screen with a diagonal of 6.53 inches with an aspect ratio of 20 to 9. But the resolution of this screen is only 720 by 1600 pixels. Although the pixels are not striking, in general the screen demonstrates good color reproduction and wide viewing angles. But what it lacks is brightness. In sunny weather the information from the screen is poorly viewed.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 also received a 6.53-inch screen, but unlike its rival, the aspect ratio of the display of this smartphone is 19.5 to 9, and the resolution is 1080 by 2340 pixels. Considering that in terms of color rendition, viewing angles and brightness, this screen is in no way inferior to the rival’s screen. In this round, the Redmi 9 has a clear advantage for a more detailed picture on the screen.
Both smartphones use the 10th version of Android as the operating system. As for the proprietary shell, it is of course MIUI. This shell has a pleasant and easy-to-use interface. This supports gesture and one-handed operations. It also has various cosmetic settings, for example, color temperature of the display and hiding “drops”, cloning applications, split screen function, dark theme and much more. MIUI is loved by many users for its versatility and user-friendly interface. True, this shell is characterized by in-built advertising and many unnecessary applications. But as practice shows, it’s easy to get rid of them.
Of course, you shouldn’t expect excellent quality pictures from a budget smartphone, but for its price segment the Xiaomi Redmi 9A takes pictures very well. The 13-megapixel main camera, together with artificial intelligence algorithms, allows you to take quite good pictures in good lighting. Unfortunately. when the lightning is off, the quality of the pictures reduces noticeably. As for the front camera, it has a 5 megapixel sensor and supports HDR, portrait mode with AI, as well as the AI Enhancement function. This allows you to take good selfies that you will not be ashamed to post on social networks. Well, as for video shooting, the Xiaomi Redmi 9A offers Full HD video recording.
Unlike its opponent, the Xiaomi Redmi 9, in addition to the main 13-megapixel module, is equipped with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, a 5-megapixel macro camera and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. The pictures taken with the main camera are similar quality to the Redmi 9A’s. As for the rest of the modules, although they can’t boast of high-quality images, at least they can expand the photo capabilities of the Redmi 9. The ultra-wide-angle module will allow you to capture more objects in the frame, the depth sensor will be useful for blurring the background, and the macro camera will allow you to shoot objects at close range. But it is worth considering that all this has to be done in good lighting. The front camera of the Redmi 9, unlike the rival, boasts a resolution of 8 megapixels. As for video shooting, Full HD video recording is available.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9A is not fast. It uses 2 GB of RAM and a Mediatek Helio G25 processor, which is made using a 12-nanometer process technology and is equipped with eight Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of up to 2 GHz. In general, this is not a gaming smartphone, it’s more suitable for calling and using messengers. Although it can handle simple arcades. As for the internal memory, there is not much of it in the Redmi 9A – it has 32 GB only. Fortunately, the smartphone has a memory card slot.
As for the Xiaomi Redmi 9, there is a more nimble Mediatek Helio G80 processor, made using a 12-nanometer process technology and receiving 2 Cortex-A75 cores and 6 Cortex-A55 cores. This smartphone has two memory options: 3 and 32 GB or 4 and 64 GB of RAM and internal memory, respectively. I recommend purchasing the second option. There will be more space for files, so the smartphone will work more smoothly. Plus, you can even play tanks, Call of Duty or PUBG at medium settings.
In terms of connectivity, both smartphones demonstrate good signal reception from cellular operators and boast the Bluetooth 5.0 module. As for the wireless connection via Wi-Fi, the Xiaomi Redmi 9 has an advantage, since it supports operation in the 5 GHz band. And also, the Redmi 9 has an infrared sensor and an NFC module for making contactless payments.
The battery capacity of the Xiaomi Redmi 9A is 5000 mAh. If you use the smartphone for calls and communication in messengers, then such battery will last 2 days without any problems. Unfortunately, the smartphone does not support fast charging, so you’ll have to be patient.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9 also demonstrates excellent battery life thanks to its 5020 mAh battery. As tests show, the device is capable of working over 15 hours in video viewing and web surfing mode, and in balanced mode it will live up to two days. It is also worth noting that the smartphone supports fast charging, but you will have to buy a separate 18-watt power adapter, since it comes with a 10-watt charger.
Now I’m going to tell you about the most common reviews of these smartphones that are shared by online shoppers. Let’s start with the negatives.
