Smartphone Samsung Galaxy A41 vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S. Chinese or Korean?

Hello everyone! Today, we’re going to compare two new smartphones – this is the Samsung Galaxy A41 and the Redmi Note 9S. Which on is better?

Appearance

The Samsung Galaxy A41 has a teardrop-shaped screen for the front camera and narrow frames. There is a tray for the SIM card and SD-card on the left. The SD-card can be installed in a separate slot. There is the volume rocker and the power button on the right. There is an additional noise reduction microphone above. The USB Type-C connector, a speaker, the main microphone and a 3.5 millimeter headphone jack are at the bottom.

There are three cameras with a flash on the rear panel in the upper left corner. The cameras are located in a rectangular module. There is a large inscription “Samsung” below. There is a fingerprint scanner, it is built into the screen.

The back panel looks original due to the iridescent prismatic pattern. It is made of modern plastic with a glossy protective layer. The coating is practical, scratches are not very noticeable, but fingerprints remain. The frame is also plastic with a metal finish. The back panel can be white, black, or red.

The Redmi Note 9S is much more massive and heavier. The smartphone weighs more than 200 grams. The considerable size and weight can be justified by the presence of the large screen and capacious battery. Almost the entire front panel is occupied by a screen with narrow frames, The small chin and round hole for the front camera in the center.

The USB Type-C connector, speaker, talking microphone and headphone jack are on the bottom of the smartphone. The noise canceling microphone and infrared port are above. This is an advantage of the Note 9S. The standard volume rocker and power button are on the right. The slot for SIM cards and SD-flash drives which can also be installed in a separate slot are on the left.

The power button of the At Note 9S is combined with a fingerprint scanner, which, in my opinion, is very convenient. The scanner fires clearly and quickly. It is much faster than the Samsung’s screen scanner.

The cameras on the back side of the Note 9S are centered in the middle. The Note 9S is available in blue, black and white color options. The glass back panel changes color tones at different angles.

Both models have a modern design. The Redmi Note 9S has a more expensive and spectacular glass at the back and a fashionable round hole in the front screen. The advantage of the Samsung Galaxy A41 is that the phone is smaller and lighter than the competitor.

Screen

The screen of the Samsung Galaxy A41 is made with the Super AMOLED technology. The diagonal of the display is not so big by modern standards. It is 6.1 inches, the resolution is high – it is 2400 by 1080 pixels. The screen is bright, with large viewing angles, accurate color reproduction with perfect black and clear white color. The cutout under the front camera is drop-shaped here.

The screen of the Redmi Note 9S is larger. It is 6.67 inches with the same resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels. It is manufactured using the IPS technology. The screen is good quality. It is bright, with the correct color reproduction. The small round hole in the center is reserved for the front camera. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass 5 with effective oleophobic coating.

Both smartphones have good bright high-resolution screens. The Redmi Note 9S has a larger display, but the Samsung used a more expensive AMOLED matrix with improved color rendering and energy efficiency.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy A41 runs on the Android 10 with One UI shell of the second version. This is very convenient and modern. It has one of the best user interfaces. Everything is intuitive here. There are wide possibilities for customization. The shell is not heavy and works reasonably well even on weak processors.

The Redmi Note 9S runs on the Android 10 which is also installed with the MIUI 11 proprietary shell with advanced configuration options and improved functionality. There are many additional functions – the second space, gesture control, one-handed operation, voice recorder. The interface is flexibly configured to suit the tastes of a particular user. A huge number of free themes are available. On of the major drawbacks of MIUI is rather intrusive built-in advertising. But if desired, it can be removed from the shell.

It is difficult to give preference to any of the smartphones in this category. In my opinion, the One UI and MIUI are the best shells in terms of convenience and functionality nowadays. Do you like One UI or MIUI more? Write in the comments.

Camera

The camera of the Samsung Galaxy A41 received three modules: the main one at 48 megapixels, the wide-angle one at 8 and the depth sensor of 5 megapixels. The shooting quality of the main module is not bad but you can get some noisy pictures along with good ones. The detail is lame in low light. The quality of shooting with the wide-angle camera as a whole is not very high.

The Redmi Note 9S has four cameras that are located on a separate square platform:

  1. The first camera is the main 48 megapixel module with an aperture of f / 1.8;
  2. The second one is wide-angle at 8 megapixels;
  3. The third module is a 5 megapixel macro camera;
  4. There is also the 2 megapixel depth sensor.

The main camera works well. You get photos with accurate natural color reproduction and good detail. The special night mode helps to cope when shooting in low light. The quality of shooting using the wide-angle camera is also mediocre. You can take good photos only in good light. The Note 9S’s macro camera is not bad. It allows you to take quite decent shots with good detail.

Both models shoot video in 4K resolution with good detail, but without stabilization. The electronic stabilization works well when shooting in 1080p mode.

The front cameras on the models are slightly different. The Galaxy A41’s front camera has 25 megapixels, and the Note 9S’s camera is 16 megapixels. You can take bright detailed selfies. Background blur works correctly.

So, both smartphones have good cameras. But I liked the Redmi Note 9S’s cameras more. The main camera takes more detailed and clear pictures. At the same time the Xiaomi smartphone has the additional macro camera which the Samsung smartphone doesn’t have.

Performance

The samsung Galaxy A41 uses the MediaTek Helio P65 12nm processor and the Mali-G52 video accelerator. This processor is not bad. It won’t work well with the most resource-intensive games at maximum settings but you won’t feel any problems with speed in everyday use. Applications start quickly, the interface works smoothly and clearly.

The Redmi Note 9S has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor with the Adreno 618 video accelerator. This is a powerful processor. Its performance is not much different from the already popular Snapdragon 730G. The chip is made using modern 8-nanometer technology. The phone is very fast in everyday use. The letter G in the processor name comes from the word “game”. Indeed, you can play all the heavy games without overheating and throttling with this processor.

The Samsung Galaxy A41 has only one configuration option. It has 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of ROM. The Redmi Note 9S can also be with 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 gigabytes of ROM. This can be expanded on both models by installing an SD card in a separate slot.

The Redmi Note 9S wins with a big advantage in terms of performance. It has a much more powerful processor and has options with more memory.

Network

The communication capabilities of the two models are close. They both supports 4G on both SIM cards, dual-band Wi-Fi, and fifth generation Bluetooth. Unlike its competitor, the Redmi Note 9S has an infrared port. What is much more valuable is the fact that the Samsung Galaxy A41 supports contactless payments. Everyone expected that the global version of the Note 9S would also have the NFC module. But the manufacturer prepared an unpleasant surprise – there is no NFC. The Samsung Galaxy A41 wins this round.

Battery

The battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy A41 is quite modest, unless you compare it with the battery of the iPhone SE 2020. It is 3500 mAh. It is good because of the low power consumption of the Amoled screen. The battery should last for a day. The Galaxy A41 supports accelerated charging and comes with a 15-watt device.

The Redmi Note 9S has a powerful battery – it is 5020 mAh. The autonomy of the phone is very high. The smartphone can last up to three days without recharging if you use it normally. The smartphone also supports fast charging and includes a more powerful charger for 18 watts.

Due to the larger battery capacity and more energy-efficient processor, the autonomy of the Redmi Note 9S is higher.
