Realme X2 vs Realme X2 Pro. Comparing gadgets?

Hello! Today we’re going to compare two smartphones with very similar names. They are the Realme X2 and the Realme X2 Pro.

Appearance

Both models have almost the same size, which is not small at all. The Realme X2 Pro is heavier than its competitor. It weighs almost 200 grams. Although it is compencated by the fact that the Pro version has a more durable aluminum frame, while the frame of the Realme X2 is made of plastic. The front and back panels of both smartphones are made of glass. The smartphones are quite comfortable to hold in your hand due to ergonomic rounding of the case.

Almost the entire front panel is occupied by large screens with the same drop-shaped cutouts for the front camera. The frames are narrow, and the chin is small.

There is a USB Type-C connector, a speaker, a talk microphone and a headphone jack on the bottom of the phones. There is the earpiece and noise canceling microphone on the top of it.

The arrangement of buttons on the side faces is not quite familiar for smartphones. The volume keys are located on the left of the smartpones, and there are two of them. The power button is on the right side. There is also a tray under the SIM card. In the older model, the SD card can be installed in a separate tray; the Pro version doesn’t have an option of extra memory space.

All four camera modules are lined up in a row at the back of smartphones with a flash nearby. The Realme X2 though has the camera block located in the left corner, while the Realme X2 Pro has it in the center. The cameras of both models protrude quite strongly above the surface of the panel.

The smartphones are available in blue and white. The Realme X2 has also a green version. The shades and patterns of the rear panel of the compared models differ, but it is difficult to say which design is more interesting. In general the smartphones look very similar. You cannot really discuss what is more beautiful – a series of cameras in the corner or in the center, or which color is more modern – Pearl Blue or Neptune Blue.

 Screen

Both models have large Super AMOLED screens. The Realme X2 has a diagonal of 6.4 inches and a high resolution of 2340 by 1080 pixels. The screen has a good margin of brightness and rich colors. There is the reading mode, white balance adjustment, the DC Dimming function. During the operation of the “Anti-Shim”, the flicker is not that sufficiently effective at low brightness compared to other models. The built-in fingerprint scanner works quickly and clearly.

The Realme X2 Pro has a slightly larger screen – it is 6 and a half inches with a resolution of 2400 by 1080 pixels. The display is very bright – up to 1000 nits. It is noticeably brighter than its competitor’s. It has large viewing angles, accurate color reproduction, deep black color. There are the “Anti-shim” and Always On Display functions. Although the last function doesn’t allow messages from instant messengers display on the off screen. Perhaps this will be fixed in the updates. There is the HDR10 support. The display operates at an increased frequency of 90 Hz. This allows you to achieve a smoother image in dynamic scenes. The automatic brightness adjustment mode works quite well. The on-screen fingerprint scanner does not cause any problems either. The smartphone unlocks very quickly for this type of sensor.

The screens on both models are protected by Gorilla Glass 5 with a good oleophobic coating.

Although the Realme X2 screen looks quite decent, the Realme X2 Pro’s screen is much better. It has a higher frequency and brightness.

Software

Both smartphones use Android 9 with the ColorOS 6 shell as software. It is well known to the Oppo users. The shell is multifunctional – there is the multi-screen support, gesture control, the ability to work with multiple users on social networks and other useful things. But there is not the function to reduce the size of the screen for working with one hand.

Camera

The Realme X2 is equipped with a rear camera with four modules:

  1. The first is the main one, at 64 megapixels with a Samsung GW1 sensor, f / 1.8 aperture;
  2. The second is an ultra-wide 119 degrees by 8 megapixels camera;
  3. The third one is a separate 2 megapixel macro camera;
  4. And finally, the depth sensor is also 2 megapixels.

The quality of shooting with a wide-angle camera is mediocre, especially if the lighting is not perfect. Two megapixels for a macro camera is not enough, which is reflected in the low quality of shooting with this sensor. At the same time, the depth sensor in modern phones is not very necessary anyway.

The main module shoots well. In the afternoon, photos are clear and detailed, especially in 64 megapixel mode. At night, the quality drops, but remains at a very good level. You should use the night mode.

The Realme X2 Pro also has four rear cameras:

  1. The first one is the main module which is the same, at 64 megapixels with a Samsung GW1 sensor and an aperture of f / 1.8;
  2. The second camera is a 13 megapixel telephoto with double optical zoom;
  3. The third is a wide-angle camera of 8 megapixels with a viewing angle of 115 degrees;
  4. The fourth module is the same as the one of the opponent it is a 2 megapixel sensor.

The main module is the same as the previous model has. But the presence of a telephoto module gives the flagship an advantage. It donsen’t only allow you to make dual optical zoom, but it also provides five-fold “hybrid” zoom together with the main module.

Both models shoot video in 4K resolution with good quality. Unlike the standard 30 fps of the X2, the Pro model allows you to have 60 frames per second in 4K.

The front cameras of the X2 and X2 Pro are different. Moreover, the older model has it at 32, and the new one has 16 megapixels. The logic is not entirely clear. But I did not notice much difference in quality. Both models produce good detailed shots with natural color reproduction. Blurring background works well.

Both smartphones have good cameras, but the Realme X2 Pro still won this round due to the presence of an additional useful telephoto module and the ability of shooting 60 fps video in 4K resolution.

Performance

The Realme X2 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 730G processor with an Adreno 618 video accelerator. This is a fast, but not a flagship processor. The chipset is made with a modern 8-nanometer technology. The phone is fast for everyday use. The letter G in the processor name comes from the word “game”. Indeed, the processor allows you to play all the heavy games without overheating. There might be some throttling at maximum load, but it is not significant.

The Realme X2 Pro has the most powerful Snapdragon 855 plus with the Adreno 640. This is a truly gaming processor. All games work very fast. The phone doesn’t everheat, and there is no throttling. Such processor will last for a couple of years, and if you do not play games much, then even more.

The built-in memory in both models can be 64, 128 or 256 gigabytes with 6 or 8 gigabytes of RAM. The Realme X2 Pro is also available in the flagship version with 12 gigabytes of RAM. Not only the processor, but also the permanent memory of the Pro model is faster, although this applies only to models with 128 and 256 gigabytes. UFS 3.0 modules are installed here. The model with 64 gigabytes, as the Realme X2, uses UFS 2.1 memory.

Permanent memory can only be expanded with the Realme X2 by installing an SD card in a separate slot. And this is an advantage of this smartphone.

In terms of performance, the Realme X2 Pro wins with a noticeable advantage, despite the fact that the Realme X2 works very fast.

Network

The communication capabilities of the two models are similar. They both support dual-band Wi-Fi, the fifth Bluetooth, and 4G on both SIM cards. The smartphones have all of our popular frequencies, if we’re talking about global versions, of course. You need to be careful when ordering the Realme X2, which is not officially supplied to all international markets. You should buy a global version, or check if the Chinese model works in your area. The smartphones support contactless payments thanks to the built-in NFC modules.

Battery

Both models have fairly the same capacious of 4000 mAh. Depending on the usage scenario, the battery lasts from one to two days. Moreover, the Realme X2 can last even a little more. Apparently the autonomy of the flagship is badly affected by the 90 Hertz on the screen.

The smartphones support fast charging. The Realme X2 Pro comes with a very powerful 50-watt charger, which allows you to fully charge the battery in 35 minutes. The Realme X2 has a modest charging capacity of 30 watts. But it also copes well – in half an hour it recovers the battery by two-thirds.

The smartphones do not support wireless charging, which is natural in the younger model, but it would be nice to see such function in the flagship. Then I looked again at the price of the Realme X2 Pro and realized that I was probably too harsh on it. What do you think? Write down in the comments whether you want the wireless charging or not. I am very curious to know your opinion.

Reviews

As always, we looked for the reviews made by the users of these smartphones on the Internet. Let’s start with the negatives!

Negative reviews

The Realme X2

  1. There is no notification indicator.
  2. The camera bulges out strongly.
  3. There is an inconvenient shell.

The Realme X2 Pro

  1. There isn’t an option of expanding the memory.
  2. The camera does not shoot well at night.
  3. Wireless charging is not supported.

Positive reviews

The Realme X2

  1. It has a large Amoled Screen.
  2. It has great cameras.
  3. There is an NFC module.
  4. It has a good battery life and fast charge.

The Realme X2 Pro

  1. It has a powerful processor.
  2. Its very bright screen supports 90 Hz.
  3. It has a good sound.
  4. There is an ultra-fast charging included.

In short, the Realme X2 Pro won this battle. It has excellent characteristics – a very powerful processor, a bright screen, stereo sound, ultra-fast charging. The only thing this smartphone lost to the competitor is its price and probably its autonomy. If a powerful processor and a ninety-hertz screen are not so important for you and you don’t want to spend much money, then the Realme X2 will be a good option for purchase. If you still want the best option, then the Realme X2 Pro will be the one to go. You will not regret it
