 The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 is a highly popular graphics accelerator among economical gamers, which allows you to comfortably spend time in many modern games, including online and session esports. An important advantage of this video card is its cost, which has significantly decreased after the release of the updated version with the Super prefix. As for its performance, of course, it isn’t that impressive. But comparing to the popular entry-level solution of the previous line, the GTX 1050 Ti, there is an advantage in FullHD resolution which ranges from 20 to 35 percent. This makes it possible to play many modern demanding projects on high and even ultra graphics settings, not falling below the minimum comfortable level of 30 frames per second. You can play a game of Battlefield 5 at 50-60 FPS with some periodic drawdowns, but all the settings used to the maximum. If you want more frame rate stability, look at the following selection decisions – they are arranged in order of increasing productivity.

If the high and ultra settings with an adequate framerate solution don’t help much, you can overclock the core and memory instead, put the middle ones, and still play with comfort. Taking into account the low cost of one frame, it is a good option for budget gaming. Of course, if you can afford a more expensive and powerful graphics accelerator based on the architecture of NVIDIA Turing or AMD Navi (RDNA), it is better to choose them. In other cases the Polaris still comes to the rescue.

 The Radeon RX 580 is another long-playing “red” model, which at one time was almost on par with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060. Now it is gradually fading into the background due to the release of the more modern, productive and energy-efficient RX 5500 XT. However, the RX 580 has its own advantages. It includes a good frequency potential and wide availability both among retail and online retailers, as well as in the secondary market at an attractive price tag. At the same time, you should remember not to have too high expectations. It has a solid thermal package and impressive appearance, but in 2020 the RX 580 is a solution for 1920 by 1080 pixels mode, nothing more. Even in this resolution you will have to lower the settings if you want to achieve the coveted 60 frames per second in many demanding games. If you are comfortable with the 30 FPS frame rate, which is more familiar to console players, you don’t have to worry – the RX 580 can pull even in Red Dead Redemption 2 at 30 FPS.

 The Super version of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 significantly increased both computing power and energy appetites. The updated card requires mandatory additional power supply, but it is still ahead of the eight-gig version of the RX 580, as well as the four-gig RX 5500 XT. Why is there such a jump in performance compared to the base version? Everything is simple – the architectural novelty is much closer to the GTX 1660, since NVIDIA decided to use the TU116 chip for it, rightly believing that it would be more competitive. If you are not one of those who neglect manual overclocking, then the GTX 1650 Super in your hands will go exactly to the level of the next card of our top card list – the Radeon RX 590, a much more demanding and hot video card. As for the potential weak point of the model, it only has four gigabytes of memory. The comparison with AMD’s “five thousand five hundred” Navi shows that the “green” solution manages the available VRAM volume more efficiently. Yes, there are already such games now that need more than 4 gigs in FullHD, but so far there are only a few of them. When the problem of lack of memory becomes more real, the lack of clean processing power of the card in new projects is going to be more important. Still want to protect yourself?  The AMD Radeon RX 590 is more difficult to find on sale than the younger Polaris models, but it’s worth it. The finer manufacturing process and higher operating frequencies make it possible to outperform not only the RX 580, but also the competing GTX 1060 and the more modern 1650 Super. It is important that the RX 590 is offered exclusively in the version with eight gigabytes of video memory, so the question of a possible shortage is completely irrelevant for it. But another problem arises in full growth, and it is a rather high heat dissipation. So choose models with an advanced cooling system that shows itself well under game load and in stress tests, especially if you play without headphones. Listen to howls of coolers close to the maximum is a dubious pleasure. However, if you take a two- or three-fan modification with efficient heat dissipation, you can play FullHD on ultra with stable 60+ FPS in hits such as The Witcher 3 and Battlefield 5. As for the heavier Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Come: Deliverance, there the frame rate will be slightly lower, but still at least 50-55 frames per second. And all this at a comfortable temperature and noise performance.

 It would seem that with the release of the Super version, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 should go into the background, but in practice the price differentiation in real retail allows these two video cards to be sold in parallel. The difference in performance between them, of course, is noticeable, but the classic GTX 1660’s overclocking is almost equivalent to the GTX 1070. In the same fifth Battle, you can easily get about 100 frames per second at maximum speeds in FullHD. Even the ultra-demanding Red Dead Redemption 2 can be played on ultra with 35+ FPS, if you customize the graphics settings and set some of them at the medium settings and some of them at high settings. 60 can be easily achieved then! Of course, if you don’t want to play any projects in the resolution of just 1920 by 1080 pixels, but you would also like some computing power for future projects, for example, for Cyberpunk 2077, it is better to purchase the 1660 Super or even more productive models. The GTX 1660 would also be a good choice, so keep it in mind.

As for the competition from the “red” – the RX 590 or the RX 5500 XT – they are not even close to the new model even in an eight-gigabyte version. The RX 5600 XT is even much more expensive. Perhaps the GTX 1660 Super at the moment is one of the best graphics accelerators for the economical gamer who wants to enjoy ultra settings in FullHD resolution, but is not ready to overpay for support for ray tracing or older Navi RDNA models. There is a very good performance indicator, sufficient computing power for any projects in FullHD, 6 gigabytes of video memory and modest heat dissipation. It is not surprising that the solution quickly burst into the tops of sales of digital equipment stores.
